The Burglary Survey collects information on residential burglary victimisation, crime prevention, and perceptions of crime, in four Police Areas (Lower Hutt, Manurewa, Rotorua, and Sydenham), as part of a three-year evaluation examining the effectiveness of police practice in relation to burglary. The survey offers more understanding of burglary prevalence, incidence, and victimisation within a mix of New Zealand communities. This will provide an opportunity to test and refine insights gained from overseas and local research, and inform future community and Police prevention and detection activities. The survey also measures how initiatives undertaken since the 2002 survey have impacted on people’s knowledge and awareness of community and prevention activities.
