The New Zealand Smoking Monitor (NZSM) is a survey undertaken by the Health Promotion Agency (HPA) on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The survey is conducted every two weeks and measures current and changing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours relating to smoking and quitting. NZSM will complement other tobacco control surveys, and offers a unique way to monitor trends over an extended period of time. Telephone surveys are conducted with New Zealand residents 18 years and over, who are either current smokers (including those who may have made a quit attempt in the last three months), or ex-smokers who have quit smoking in the last three months.
