2012 Health and Lifestyles Survey

CBG completed fieldwork for the 2012 iteration of the Health and Lifestyles Survey (HLS) in mid-2012. The survey is a biennial monitor of the health behaviour and attitudes of New Zealand adults aged 15 years and over, and parents and caregivers of 5 to 16-year-olds, first carried out in 2008. The HLS collects information relating to Health Promotion Agency’s (formerly Health Sponsorship Council) programme areas of alcohol, tobacco control, sun safety, problem gambling and nutrition.
Prior to the introduction of the HLS in 2008, the (then) Health Sponsorship Council (HSC) undertook a number of different monitor surveys to benchmark and monitor changes in New Zealanders’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviour in response to its social marketing and health promotion programmes and community-level activities in the health sector. In 2007, HSC reviewed the adult surveys and combined the majority of these into a single survey - the HLS. For related survey publications, please visit the Health Promotion Agency website. In 2012, CBG returned an unweighted response rate of 83% in the adult sample and 88% in the parent/caregiver sample.
